Frequently asked questions
What is an indication?
+
An estimated price based on your answers. It isn't a quote or a policy, and it creates no coverage. A licensed producer reviews it and we send it in 1–2 business days.
When can you quote me?
+
Within 60 days of your renewal or the date you need coverage. If it's further out, get an indication now and we'll use it for the quote.
Do you cover tree trimming?
+
Yes, up to 12 feet, working from the ground, a ladder or a bucket lift. We don't cover climbing, work near power lines or highways, or logging.
Do you cover tree removal and land clearing?
+
Yes. Your account gets an underwriting review, and pricing reflects the work.
Do I need workers' comp in Texas?
+
Most private employers in Texas can choose not to carry it. But without it, an injured worker can sue you and you lose important defenses. Many commercial customers, HOAs and government contracts require it.
Can I pay as I go?
+
Yes. With pay-as-you-go, you pay premium as you run payroll instead of a big deposit up front.
Do you take new businesses?
+
Yes. New businesses are welcome.
Will you ask for my loss runs?
+
If your premium is under $50,000 and your experience mod is 1.30 or under, we don't ask for loss runs.
Why no day laborers or cash pay?
+
Those workers don't show up on payroll, and when someone gets hurt it's hard to tell whether they were covered. We write businesses with employees on payroll.
Why a 4-person limit per vehicle?
+
Vehicle accidents are one of the most serious causes of injury in landscaping. Keeping it to 4 or fewer protects your crew and your price.
Do you speak Spanish?
+
Yes. You can fill out the request in Spanish and we'll help you in Spanish.
How do I get a certificate of insurance?
+
Email brad@yardcomp.com with who needs the certificate, their address, and when you need it. Someone on our team will be in touch right away.
Who underwrites my coverage?
+
Coverage is underwritten by Vesper Risk and issued by Clear Spring Property and Casualty Group, rated A− (Excellent) by A.M. Best.
When does your policy renew?
If it's more than 60 days out, get an indication now and hold it against the renewal when it lands. Within 60 days of your renewal or effective date, we work a real quote.
